The sport of poker has started to become a much more appreciated sport over the years, and most importantly, its best players have started to receive the recognition they deserve and appear more than in the gambling news. Since 1979, the best poker players in the world have started to be included in the Hall Of Fame, and only the cream of the crop get to be a part of this extremely select club. Each year, the list gets bigger, with the top poker players being added after a thorough process of selection.
This year was no different, and after the public voting stage, the list of the 2011 finalists was down to just 10 names. Each of the poker players that made it to the final stage passed a very strict selection process. They had to be at least 40 years old, they had to have played against top poker pros, at the high stakes, and their level of play throughout the years had to have been consistent.
The names that made it to the final stage were: Annie Duke, Jennifer Harman, Linda Johnson, Marcel Luske, John Juanda, Barry Greenstein, Huck Seed, Scotty Nguyen, Tom McEvoy and Jack McClelland. The final selection process was up for a vote, with 17 members of the international media casting their vote, as well as 18 of the existing Hall Of Fame members.
Many players on the list lost many votes from the get go, as the overall opinion of the voters was that no player with connection to any online poker room that was involved in the Black Friday events would be inducted.
In the end, Linda Johnson and Barry Greenstein were the two players that received the most votes, and they will officially be the 2011 Poker Hall of Fame inductees.
Linda Johnson is the recipient of the 1997 WSOP bracelet, and for years she has been known as the “First Lady of Poker”。 She also founded Card Player Magazine, and is already inducted in the Women in Poker Hall of Fame.
Barry Greenstein is one of the most successful high-stakes poker players in history, and a charitable character, which has earned him the nickname “The Robin Hood of Poker”。
