Community Card Poker
Community card poker games, also known as flop games, use a combination of hole cards （dealt to individual players） and community cards, which are dealt face up on the table and shared by all the players. These are combined in accordance with the rules of the specific variant of community card poker being played.
Once the hole cards have been dealt the first round of betting takes place.
The dealt community cards are known as the board. The first three are dealt together and are known as the flop. A round of betting follows, with the fourth and fifth board cards being known as the turn and the river respectively. They are dealt with their own rounds of bets.
Home games often use antes, while in casinos blinds are employed and limit games are most common.
Community card games are normally very positional, as each betting round starts with the player to the left of the dealer or big blind.
The World Series of Poker mostly uses the no-limit betting structure for its Hold’em events, as does the World Poker Tour （WPT）。
Texas Hold’em
Texas Hold’em, which originated at some stage in the 1920s, is currently the most popular form of poker in the world today, almost totally eclipsing the previous favourite, seven-card stud.
Players receive two hole cards that they match with any combination of the five community cards, or board.
Texas Hold’em has enjoyed a huge rise in popularity in the early stages of the 21st Century, thanks to massive exposure on television, the Internet and popular literature.
Because each player only holds two cards in this variant, with the rest being shared, Texas Hold’em offers the perfect game structure for strategic and mathematical analysis.
Omaha Hold’em
The other major community card poker variant, Omaha Hold’em, is often simply called Omaha. This flop game differs from Texas Hold’em in that each player is dealt four hole cards instead of two and must make the best possible hand from exactly two of them and three of the five community cards.
